Bergeron Machine Setup Operator Receives Tremendous Honor

Compass Precision is always trying to expand its automation and robotic capabilities at its nine operating companies. But that doesn’t mean Compass wants its employees to be robots.

Few may appreciate that more than Bergeron Machine’s Enrique Betanzos. He explained that at his previous machine shop, that’s exactly how he felt.

“My previous job was an assembly line, and it was doing the same thing over and over and over. No changes. Not learning anything. I felt like a robot,” Enrique said. “Here, there are many things to learn. There’s not one day that you aren’t learning something new.

“I like that because that’s my personality – to learn new things. Otherwise, it would just be boring for me.”

Over almost three years at Bergeron Machine, Enrique has learned a tremendous amount and begun helping train new employees. For his efforts, Compass has named Enrique its Employee of the Month for August 2025.

“In the time that Enrique has been with us, he has shown a great desire to learn and develop the skills necessary to face the challenges in front of him as a set up person and trainer,” Bergeron President Dave Giampa said. “Enrique has become a valuable asset to this company, and I hope to see that value continue to grow as time goes on.”

Enrique is the sixth Bergeron employee to receive the Compass Employee of the Month award and 65th employee overall since the program started in March 2020.

Office manager Joey Sum was the most recent recipient of the honor at Bergeron in January.

Enrique arrived at Bergeron without any experience in CNC machining. But with a strong desire to learn, he quickly became an intricate part of the machine shop’s staff.

As a setup operator, Enrique runs and sets up machines. He said he enjoys the unique challenges and opportunities to learn the machine shop provides every day.

And just as Bergeron’s employees did for him, he tries to help anyone new to the industry in the shop that he can.

“I’ve been picking up a lot of new things over the three years, and I have learned a lot from others. Now, I’m trying to help any new employees that come in. Pass on my knowledge.”

Enrique added that he likes working at Bergeron because of the environment and the respect the management team shows the entire staff.

Bergeron has added several new machines to its shop floor during Enrique’s tenure. But he said his favorite units to run are the older Citizen M20s and the M32. Enrique stated that he learns the most with those machines.

Continuing to learn is what keeps Enrique at Bergeron and likely will for a long time.

“I hope that I can still grow with this company,” Enrique said. “I think Bergeron is going to do really well. I want to be here when that happens.”

Enrique was born in Laredo, TX, which is right on the United States-Mexico border. But as a toddler, his parents moved his family back to their original home in Mexico City.

After graduating school in Mexico with an accounting degree, Enrique and his brother, Manny, returned to the US, moving to Massachusetts in 2019. Enrique’ first US employment was working as a team leader at a phone company.

Seeking a change in scenery after about four years, Enrique began monthly contract work for a manufacturer in Acton, MA. Following a year on the assembly line, he applied for an opportunity with Bergeron through Indeed.

In his free time, Enrique loves trying new restaurants, visiting American cities and listening to music. His favorite type of food is Italian, but he also really likes Mexican, Vietnamese and Japanese delicacies.

Enrique’s favorite genre of music is jazz. He also listens to rock and blues.
